Fiona Johnson
I Meant to Read That
Fiona was quick to chastise me (lol) when I presented the below review of her old blog. It seems she has worked on it somewhat, or as she states my computer didn’t load the page up correctly. For that I will have to amend the score here. So what do we have here?
The header on the landing screen is a little too large if I do say so myself, but the font itself gives this a school handwriting style. This may have something to do with Fiona’s occupation. I still can’t get away with the feeling that something is missing from this part of the landing page. The menu bar gives us navigation options to her ‘cover design’ skills as well as the home.
I like the background texture to the site, being that it is wood, but gives it a constant, level and comfortable feel to it.
The right hand sidebar (it’s the only one) displays a range of items here, but I think you would need to revisit some of the font colours as they blend/ clash with the background.
The main content column gives us a diverse amount of information and I see a familiar map of the Western part of Scotland. Nicely done, Fiona. The only thing that lets this down is the bottom of the page where the font colour is indiscernable with the background. Also I would recommend you put your favourite blogs on the right hand sidebar instead. Maybe put your menu there also, as there is only 2 titles for this.
Overall, Fiona, not bad. A slight raise in score so, well done. Just a little attention to detail with regards to font colour and where you place certain items of your blog (menu).
Basic no thrills header here.. with a nice title ‘I meant to read that.’ The colour scheme here is nice. I particularly like the sky blue background. I’m not so sure what the Karma Score is, but I’m sure it serves its own purpose. Maybe you should have a link to you, your bio, profile.
The sidebar seems a bit eclectic in that it’s spread all the way down about 4 foot and I get sense of proportion when I’m going down it. Don’t get me wrong, you offer me some nice images to get across your point. Other work is offered in a nice format, however your own work such as your top post on KDP needs a once over. You might need to go into the HTML and remove some spaces or newlines.
It looks like something is missing from the top – an image or something. The blank upper right unbalances the landing page somewhat.
Nevertheless, colourful and with an image rich sidebar

Craig,
Thanks for doing this but I my blog hasn’t loaded properly on your computer that’s why there looks as if there are odd gaps and the background is actually wooden floor planks and you’re right, there is actually a graphic in the header and it’s not that plain text – all looks fine on my computer and other people have mentioned the look to me so I know other people can see it. I’ll take a screen shot and send it to you!

Okay Fiona. I’ll take another look at this and adjust the scores accordingly. The same will apply with Danny Kemp’s blog too. ; )

Thanks Craig – good points you’ve made, blogger is a pain to use at times, I find wordpress a lot easier to use but not going to change now….
